Breast Friends co-founders Sharon Henifin and Becky Olson were honored with this years’ “Local Hero Award.” Susan G. Portland Health Expo & Race for the Cure 2007
2007 marks the 3rd year that Breast Friends has served as the official Co-Survivor program for the Oregon & SW Washington Affiliate of the Susan G Komen for the Cure. Many volunteers helped with greeting survivors and their friends and family members while getting them to sign the "Chain of Love". This year the chain reached the amazing length of 340ft long, filled with wonderful messages to their loved ones, thanks yous and tributes to those that weren't able to walk this race.
JOY OF LIFE DINNER AUCTION & DANCE
Oregon Zoo was the place where the First Annual Joy Of Life Fundraiser to benefit Breast Friends was held. The place was buzzing with people enjoying all the silent auction items to begin the night. The oral auction, heads and tails game, an emotional video showing the work of Breast Friends in the community followed a tasty dinner. The Design Band wrapped up a perfect evening with great dance music and entertainment.
We had over 200 in attendance and raised well over $30,000. The proceeds raised from the event will be used to help expand our programs regionally. The demand for our services is growing and the money raised will help meet the needs of the ever increasing number of newly diagnosed breast cancer patients.
We want to thank all our sponsors and auction item donors.

Dragon Boat Racing with Pink Phoenix
Pink Phoenix Races in Gorman Cup on the Willamette River June 10, 2006
Every year in June, Portland, Oregon is alive with special activities as the city celebrates Rose Festival. Beside the parades and other competitions, a two-day dragon boat race is held on the Willamette River. This is a unique event in that the boats used for racing are the traditional Chinese style boats.
One special race that takes place on Saturday afternoon is the breast cancer survivor's race called The Gorman Cup. The race is named in memory of Pink Phoenix™ founding captain Michele Gorman, who died on April 10, 1998. The Gorman Cup attracts other breast cancer survivor teams to Portland, but is considered an exhibition race.
Sharon Henifin from Breast Friends, a 12 year survivor, had the opportunity to participate in this years race. "It was an exciting event, especially for someone who has never been in a dragon boat. It was a thrill to join close to a hundred other breast cancer survivors in the event."
Gresham Ford teamed up with It's Me to make a difference for breast cancer survivors by doing a fundraiser for Breast Friends. Here's a few shots from that event.
