Using Your Strengths

Using Your Strengths

Summer is in full swing around the country, but as we know, breast cancer doesn't take a vacation. Women are being diagnosed every day with this very scary and personal disease. It attacks our very core of femininity and our life. It forces us to look at our mortality, and even if it isn't you being diagnosed, it affects us all at a very basic level.

When I think about being a 13 year survivor, I consider my experience a blessing. This takes some people by surprise. But with several years to reflect on my breast cancer journey and involvement in Breast Friends, I understand I've had a wonderful opportunity to discover my purpose. Most of us go through life not understanding why we are on this earth. We don't understand our strengths or what we should do with them. Our society seems to concentrate on our weaknesses and working to improve them. Like most, I fuss and complain about not being good enough, but because of breast cancer, I have been able to put my assets to work to help others deal with breast cancer. I wake up each day knowing in my heart I am doing the right things for the right reasons. I am still learning, I still struggle with lack of confidence, but I know in my heart my involvement in Breast Friends is making a difference.

If you want to help others going through breast cancer or their family & friends, let us know. As a small non-profit organization we need your help, financially and as a volunteer. What are your strengths? How can you apply those assets to make a difference? We'd love to talk to you about becoming a part of Breast Friends. Please contact us at mail@breastfriends.com or call us at 503-598-8048. Check out some the things we do in the community by visiting our web-site at www.breastfriends.com.
